Either hair loss in women is increasing and perhaps in men too, or I’m noticing it more because I’m getting older and not only is my hair turning gray, its getting thinner. I wonder if this is caused by getting perms or chemical color or, like everything else, what I eat. Or maybe its just age and genetics. Doctors ask if my mother and grandmother had thin hair and honestly I don’t think they did, until they were in their eighties anyway. I’m not that old. Some hair loss is patchy and caused by poor health, but most hair loss is gradual and starts at the forehead, working back. This is called male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. It affects many more men than women.
Possibly women are more stressed by thinning hair. Probably anyone who is afraid they’re going bald looks for remedies. The first thing wed search for is hair loss shampoo. And companies who create hair care products try to find remedies for us. One offers hair loss/ regrowth shampoo, enhanced with ketoconazole, saw palmetto, emu oil, biotin and salicylic acid (that would be aspirin) for greater Minoxidil penetration. Others add ginseng and nioxin. Nioxin is offered by many sources and one promises thicker, denser looking, hair in 30 days. That is not quite a promise of more hair growth. But were interested in anything that might help, preferably something simple.
